Blessings when our Lord goes ahead of us

Introduction

Deuteronomy 31:3 “The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.”

The above passage explains how Moses the servant of God strengthens the people of Israel. He explains how the Lord almighty is going to guide and guard them. When we read the above passage, we can see Moses says that the Lord will go before the people the Israel. The experience of being led by God and especially when he goes before us, the blessings that we have is abundant. We read in Matthew 6:25 ‘Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?’ We will never be worried of all the insignificant things when our Lord goes before us.
In Deuteronomy 31:6 ‘Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.’ In this verse our Lord God gives two commandments to the people of Israel. Firstly, to be strong and be of good courage. Secondly, not to fear and to be afraid of anything. There might be a lot of issues that are bothering us and it might even put a fear in our lives. Today, the Lord says, be not afraid. Our Lord wants his children to be strong and courageous to face anything that stands against us. As a part of today’s meditation, let us discuss about the blessings that we will obtain when our Lord goes ahead of us.

Hope in hopelessness

Deuteronomy 31:2 “And he said unto them, I am an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the LORD hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan.”

We see Moses was led by the Lord almighty and he brought the entire children of Israel out of the bondage by the grace of God. Though Moses was anointed, he becomes feeble when he was 120 years old. Moses admits that he will not be able to guide the people anymore as he has become old. This made the children of Israel to lose their hope. When there was a hopeless situation, our Lord gives them a hope    in Deuteronomy 31:3 ‘The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt posses them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.’ Though days of Moses is on the verge of completion, the purpose that the Lord had on the people of Israel did not fail. Our Lord gives the people of Israel a hope and a new beginning. Same way we might even think that it is all over and nothing can make things better. Today, our Lord is with us to give us a hope in a hopeless situation.

The Lord will be our leader

Deuteronomy 31:3 “The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.”

Over here we see that Moses confirms that Joshua will lead the people of Israel and he will make the people inherit all the blessings that the Lord has kept for his children. Here, Joshua gets a promotion. He becomes a leader and he is given a divine responsibility. Even in our lives, we are going to receive many promotions. The Lord himself will enable us to reach heights and he will give us a position which is unimaginable. As Joshua was lifted to an extraordinary position, even we the children of Lord will be lifted up from an ordinary position to an extraordinary position. The Lord will be our leader and we will taste the victory. We should humble ourselves and pray that our Lord should lift us as a leader in our lives.

The Lord will battle for us

Deuteronomy 31:3 “The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.”

Here we see the Lord himself will battle for us. As he takes up the battle, he will take in charge of all the things that pertains to us. The Lord will speak for his children. When we have the Lord God on our side, nobody can harm us. This we read in Psalms 118:6 ‘The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?’ Our enemies may not how they have lost and we will never know how we conquered. Such will be the battle of our Lord. Today, our Lord God goes ahead of us and he takes up the battle for his children.

We will possess the Land

Deuteronomy 31:3 “The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, and he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.”

When the Lord goes ahead of us, we will have the blessing of inheritance. As the Lord promises that the Israelites will possess the lands, same way we the children of God will inherit many things on earth. In Deuteronomy 6:10-12 ‘And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not, And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full; Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.’ The above passages briefs us about the blessings of possession. We the children of God will be blessed with many unsaid blessings on earth. Finally in Deuteronomy 6:12 ‘Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.’ Our Lord wants his people to be thankful to all that he has done. We the children of God should not forget our Lord God soon as we get what we wanted. We should always be grateful to all the blessings and mercies of the Lord. Amen.
