SUNDAY SERMONS

Inheriting the promise

Introduction

Deuteronomy 1:8 “Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give unto them and to their seed after them.

In the above passage we see the Lord God fulfills what he has promised to his children. At the right time, the Lord asks them to inherit what was reserved for his children. When our Lord God asks us to inherit certain things in life, it is our duty to go and inherit it without much ado. Our Lord gave certain visions and promises to Moses and used him to bring his children out of the captivity. After Moses, the Lord was with Joshua and gave him visions. Let us discuss on how the Lord led the people of Israel to inherit their promises.

RISING

Joshua 1:2 “Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.

When the children of Israel were confounded after the death of Moses, the Lord calls Joshua to take the lead. Joshua takes the responsibility to guide the children of God to their promised land. The Lord almighty did not want his people to sit back and brood over what has happened, Instead, he wanted to prepare his children to the next level. As recorded in this passage, the Lord asks the people to arise and go over Jordan. The Lord does not like his children to be dormant. He insisted that they rise and walk towards the long bright way he has prepared for them. Even in our lives, when we are inactive for certain things, it will restrict the plan that the Lord has prepared for us. Today, the hands of God is going to break away all that is not letting us to rise. When we rise against all odds, the power of the Lord will transform us into extraordinary people.

PLAN

Joshua 18:3-4 “And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you? Give out from among you three men for each tribe: and I will send them, and they shall rise, and go through the land, and describe it according to the inheritance of them; and they shall come again to me.

To inherit the promise of God, it is important that we have a proper plan in place. Here on the above passage, the Lord God gives a plan to Joshua. There are people who are too lazy to act according to the plan of God to obtain their promises. We need to clearly understand that having a plan is very important to inherit any form of promise/vision. We read in Joshua 1:11 ‘Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.’ Here we see the Lord instructs the people to properly use what they have in their hands. Even in our lives, we the children of God are blessed with many talents. Are we using it to glorify or Lord God? Today our Lord insists us that we should start using our talents which will accelerate to act as per the plan of God. In Romans 9:28 ‘For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth’ As this verse rightly states that our Lord God will complete his plan at the appointed time.

STRENGTH

Joshua 18:3 “And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, How long are ye slack to go to possess the land, which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?

Over here we see the children of Israel are slack to inherit their blessings. We need to fully understand that we should never postpone to inherit our promises. There should not be any delay in inheriting what was promised to us. We read in Philippians 4:13 ‘I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.’ Today, our Lord God is giving us the divine strength to inherit the blessings. As recorded in Joshua 1:5-9, the strength of God will empower us and will lead us to inheritance.

FAITH

Joshua 1:3 “Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.”

One of the key elements to inherit the promise of God is by having an immense faith on God. We need to firmly believe in the name of God and his promises. In Hebrews 11:1 ‘Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.’ The humane thoughts will always lead us into disbelief. We the children of God should not overthink on the plans that God has for us. In Romans 4:17 ‘(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.’ We need to firmly believe that the Lord almighty will promise us things that doesn’t exist in real life. This should be the faith that God wants his children to have. Therefore, let us pray that the Lord God will prepare us in such a way that we inherit our promises. Amen.
