Lack no good thing
Lack no good thing
Psalm 34:10 'The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.'
We all know that every good thing comes from the Lord. As recorded in the above verse, we read they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing. Bible scholars
say whatever happened post I Samuel chapter 21, this chapter was written based on that. They have also gave a title for this chapter as 'Praise from the cave'. Interestingly
we can see that David did not write as a king but as a commoner. He writes the Psalm based on his bad situations. He wrote a praise not a lament or a cry. If we the
children of God offer praises during our tough situations, we will experience many miracles. When people offered praises during the time of Jericho, they conquered. When
Paul and Silas praised when they were tied up, they were delivered. Also, when Jesus sang praises in the garden of Gethsamane, the world witnessed a resurrection. We the
children of God should keep asisde all the laments and whinings during our cave-like situations, we will lack no good thing. Let us meditate what did David do during his
situations and shall meditate certain confessions of David.
Taste God
Psalm 34:8 'O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.'
In the above verse, we read David says 'O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.' We the children of God should taste and see that
the Lord is good. This is something we can experience this personally in our spiritual lives. The more we taste the love of God we should go deeper into the presence of
the Lord. The key point in the passage above is we need to trust upon him. Only if we put our trust on our Lord God we can taste his goodness. In spiritual lives, the
more we trust in God, we will able to go along with the Lord God deeper and deeper. When we trust on the Lord and taste his goodness we will be a blessed person.
Fear God
Psalm 34:9 'O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.'
Here in the above passage, David proclaims saying we need to fear the Lord. In the previous verse, David uses a lighter tone when he asks us to trust on the Lord. In
this verse, he changes his tone as he emphazises on fearing the Lord. This verse brings a reverence and respect towards the Lord. Our Lord is good and loving God but
he is also a terrible God who does mighty things. The fear of the Lord means that we obey and do accoriding to his words. In Proverbs 8:13 'The fear of the LORD is to hate evil..'.
When we have the fear in this world, it will keep reminding us that we are in lack/shortfall. In the second part of the verse, we read when we have the fear of the Lord
we shall lack no good thing. When we fear the Lord, we will lead a life which is pleasing in the sight of the Lord. When we live such life, the Lord will supply all
our needs.
Seek God
Psalm 34:10 'The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.'
Initially David asked us to taste the goodness of the Lord and to fear the Lord. Here in this verse, he asks us to seek the Lord. Based on the skill of the Lion, ideally
it should not lack and suffer hunger. But even that animal which is the king of the Jungle may suffer hunger, but when we seek the Lord with all his heart we shall find
him. We read this in Jeremiah 29:13 'And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.' The Lord changes all our shortfalls in our
lives when we seek him whole heartedly.Amen.
