Faith of Jochebed - II

 Faith of Jochebed - II

Exodus 6:20 'And Amram took him Jochebed his father's sister to wife; and she bare him Aaron and Moses: and the years of the life of Amram were an hundred and thirty
and seven years.'

In the above passage we read that Amran married Jochebed. And she begat Aaron and Moses. However, when we read in Numbers 26:59 'And the name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, the
daughter of Levi, whom her mother bare to Levi in Egypt: and she bare unto Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister.' We can understand that Jochebed is the
mother of Aaron, Moses and Miriam. When we look into the life of Jochebed, she was born in the tribe of Levi who were ministering in the tabernacle. Their generations
kept doing their works in the temple of Solomon as well. When we read in Exodus 2:1-8, Jochebed acts as a woman with full of reverence for the faith of God. She had a
specific revelations concerning her child. It is such a blessing to have a god fearing mother. Let us meditate three important attributes of Jochebed.

Sacrifice

Exodus 2:3 'And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and she
laid it in the flags by the river's brink.'

During those times, the King had commanded to kill all the newborn male born. Here Jochebed did not intend to throw away her child and hid her baby for three months.
She sacrificed so many things for her child. After three months, she could not hide the child anymore. She built an ark of bulrushes to send the baby. She also instructed
her daughter to have an eye on the ark. Jochebed had a massive faith which made not to obey the cruel command of the King and decided to protect her child. When she sent
the child out on the ark, she had great faith that the Lord almighty will protect it. Although she saw many children were killed, she did not give up her faith. We read
in Proverbs 3:5 'Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.' Even in our lives, the things that happen in the world might worry
us. But we need to believe that the Lord God will perfect everything that concerns me. As parents, we sacrfice a lot of things for our children. We work very hard
for the future of our children. The Lord will surely give a reward for a life of sacrifice. At the right time the Lord will reward us and will honour us.

Faith

Hebrews 11:23 'By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's
commandment.'

Here we see both the father and mother had a strong faith and hid the child for three months. They believed that the Lord will protect their child. In Isaiah 7:9 'If
ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.' Jochebed submitted her child into the hands of the Lord out of her faith. It is her faith that made her to
send the child in the ark. When everyone else were wailing on their children, Jochebed grew stronger in faith. This is the attribute that differentiates a normal
person and person who believes in the name of the Lord. The place where the children were slaugtered became the place of safety for Jochebed who trusted on God. The
faith of Jochebed was put into action in the form of an ark. She believed that her child will have a bright future and she protected the baby. Abraham became the father
of faith only after he put his faith in action by giving up his son. Even in our lives, when we send our children out in the world for studies, for work and other things
we need to believe that the Lord will protect them. When we have that faith, the Lord will protect our children and will be honoured.

Reward

Exodus 2:5 'And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the flags,
she sent her maid to fetch it.'

Here we see Jochebed receives her reward for her sacrifice and faith. The daughter of Pharaoh came to that place where she sights the ark of bulrushes. Jochebed gave her
own child which she could not have, but when she sent it she received it abundantly. If the daughter of Pharaoh came a little late, things would have been different.
We can see the child was saved alive, it came back to its own mother. Also it came to the place where it was born and brings a wage to nurse the child. The reward from
the Lord would have changed Jochebed's life. She no longer had to hide her child as the Lord gave her back the child and rewarded her. Even in our lives, the reward
for our sacrifices in a royal manner. The Lord expects his children to have a faith along with obedience. The Lord measures our obedience and rewards us. Like how
Abraham obeyed the Lord fully to sacrifice his only son. A faith with obedience will enable to us show it in action. When Jochebed nursed up the child, she laid a
strong foundation on him. She kept telling her child not to go behind the luxuries but to drive his people from bondage. In Hebrews 11:24-27, we can read that Moses
did not have his desire on worldly things in the kingdom. But his heart was inclined to the will of the Lord. We the children of the Lord will surely have a reward for
our sacrfices and faith that we have on the Lord God. Amen.
