When the Lord does great things

When the Lord does great things

Joel 2:21 'Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things.'

Our Lord is a Lord who does great things. When the Lord does great things, new things will spring up in our lives. It will bring forth fruitful rewards in our lives.
This passage is like a reminder and also a promise concerning our future. In what situations does this verse say that the Lord will do great things ? It is during the
times of fear. We might be going through a fearful situation the Lord says 'Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things'. The Lord is so
unique in a way where he can work out great things in any given situations. A man can only make temporary estimations considering the present stuation,  but the Lord
will calculate everything prophetically. When the Lord work out great things, how are we expected to be prepared ? Today let us meditate on how we should receive the
great things from the Lord.

Rejoice

Psalm 126:3 'The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad.'

In the above passage we read we are glad as the Lord did great things for us. There are deeper things associated when the Lord does great things in our lives which
brings us joy. When the Lord does great things, we will be filled with joy. We read in Psalm 126:2 'Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing:
then said they among the heathen, The LORD hath done great things for them.' The Lord will work out things in such a way that our mouths filled with laughter and our
tongues with singing. Due to the immeasurable joy, our mouths will be filled laughter. A Bible scholar says, the mercies the Lord showered upon us are unexpected ones.
Youngsters will always be laughing and having fun. But when they get older, they will be tensed and stressed. Many of us are either tensed or stressed these days. Today
the Lord is going to restore all the joy and laughter to his children. The verse says the tongues will be filled with songs of Joy. It is not songs of sorrow, the Lord
is going to fill us with songs of joy. In verse two, we can see the gentiles were talking about the great things of the Lord even before the children of the Lord. People
around us will witness the great things that the Lord is doing in our lives. When the Lord does great things, the people around us will testify and glorify the Lord God on our
behalf. The Lord will give us joy of salvation to his children. The Lord will give the spiritual fellowship as a church. The joy from the Lord will give us confidence
and courage that it will bring a great things in our lives.

Luke 1:49 'For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.'

Here we see the Lord has done great and glorious things. When the Lord does great things we need to be holy and fear of the Lord. It is true that Lord is with us everyday
but we should not forget that the Lord is a Holy God. This recall should not bring fear but a reverence. In this chapter we can see Mary is singing and rejoicing as the
Lord has done great things for her. But that experience of happiness took her to an experience of devotion. Bible scholars are comparing the song of Mary to the song
that is sung by Hannah in the Old testament. When Mary knew the words of the Lord in her heart, it moved her to rejoicing and holiness. Even in our lives, when we receive
the great things from the Lord, we should not just rejoice but also should act as per the word of the Lord. Here Mary did the right thing because she magnified and revered
the Lord God. When we have an experience of glorifying our Lord God, it acts as a medicine of self-pride.

Serve faithfully

I Samuel 12:24 'Only fear the LORD, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.'

When the Lord does great things, we need to serve the Lord faithfully. Here we can see Samuel gives a commandment that we need to serve him with all our hearts. The only
way we can repay the Lord is when we serve him faithfully. In this chapter we can read about of the final speech of Samuel in his leadership. Samuel knew very well that the
Lord will do great things and he prepares the people to serve the Lord. There is no doubt that the Lord will do great things in our lives. When we does, we need to
serve him faithfully. In I Samuel chapter 11, the Lord gave a massive victory to Saul and there was a celebration. In Chapter 12, Samuel instructs and alerts the children
of the Lord. But in chapter 13, Saul fails to serve the Lord. Saul who knew how to celebrate the victory but he did not know how to serve the Lord faithfully. In I Samule
13:13 'And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have
established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever.' Here Samuel says that Saul did a foolish thing by not keeping the commandment of the Lord. When we fear the Lord and
faithfully serve him, the Lord will establish us. The good things the Lord does should lead us to reverence and faithfulness. But only when we have the fear concerning
the Lord God, we will be established. Amen.
