November [Month of exaltation] - Promise Sermon

Promise Message - November [Month of exaltation]

Joshua 3:7 'And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will
be with thee.'
Our Lord God is promising an exaltation in our lives. We might have began this year with financial and economical strains but the Lord promises an exaltation to his
children. People would have forecasted the financial conditions or predicted the future economical positions but if the Lord promised an exaltation nothing can hinder
them. When we truly believe the word of God and receive his promise with faith, the Lord will deliver the experience of exaltation. Here in the above passage, the Lord
gave an exaltation to Joshua who is a servant of God. It was a situation where Joshua was getting prepared to face two challenges in his life. All these while he was a
protege and more or less a student but now he was given a huge responsibility. During this situation, the Lord promises an exaltation to Joshua. There can be difficult
situations, but the Lord will enable us to overcome challenging situations to reach the exaltation. If we look into the history of Israelites, the Lord made them walk
for forty years and enabled them to reach their promised land. He allowed them into challenging situations to acquire the exaltations of the Lord. Even in our lives, the
Lord is with us amidst of all the challenges. The Lord will taech us and will guide us to receive the exaltation according to his will. Similarly, it was a challenging
situation for Joshua to experience the work of the Lord. Let us meditate how the Lord led Joshua and exalted him.
I will be with you
Joshua 3:7 'And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will
be with thee.'
In the above passage, the Lord assures Joshua that he is with him. Before Joshua had the experience of exaltation, it was necessary that he had to know that the Lord
was with him. An exaltation without the Lord is empty and short lived. The exaltation with the Lord will be permanent. Joshua receives the promise at the right time and
he moved forward boldly. Further in the verse, we read the Lord takes Moses as an example to assure Joshua that he will be with him. The Lord promised that he will be
like a leader, a counsellor, a comforter to Joshua. Just like how the Lord gave commandments through Moses, the Lord does the same thing by assisting Joshua. Just as the
Lord spoke to Moses face to face (Exodus 33:11), even Joshua had a similar experience with an angel of the Lord in chapter five. Also in Exodus 14, we can see the Lord
parted the red sea for Moses. Similarly in Joshua 3, the Lord divides river Jordan for Joshua. The challenges of Joshua proved the fact that the Lord was with him.
We read in Exodus 33:11 'And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua,
the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.' We read Joshua never departed out of the tabernacle. He desired to be in the presence of the Lord and
which is main reason why the Lord promised Joshua that he will be with him. Interestingly, in Joshua 5:14 'And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD
am I now come.' Although Moses witnessed the work of the Lord very closely, it is Joshua who saw the Lord as the captain of the host who is fighting for his people. The
desire to be with the Lord gave new experiences and revelations to Joshua and he witnessed that the Lord is with him. Even in our lives, the Lord promises that he is
with us and he is on our side. He will never forsake and he will not depart from us. We need to have the desire to be with the Lord. Every single day this desire
should grow and we must not depart from his presence.
I will exalt you
Joshua 3:7 'And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will
be with thee.'
The Lord was with Joshua and he exalted him. Bible scholars say the words of the Lord in this passage encouraged Joshua. The desire of the Lord is to motivate his
children. The Lord kept encouraging Joshua and he was leading him in his way. When we have the confidence that the Lord is with us, we will move forward in faith. If we
do so, the Lord is able to give us the exaltation. We need to take the first step of faith which will allow the Lord to exalt us. Here, the Lord was preparing Joshua
for many years. Joshua had seen exaltations in the past but in this chapter the Lord exalts him in public. The exaltation of the Lord will not glorify us but it will
glorify the Lord. When we follow the Lord with humbleness the Lord will exalt us publicly. In Exodus, we can see Joshua's names has been mentioned in seven different
ways where it certifies his nature. But the Lord wanted Joshua to be exalted before the eyes of the people. In Joshua 1:2 'Moses my servant is dead; now therefore
arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel.' Here the Lord asked them to go over
Jordan but did not instruct them how to cross the river. But Joshua gave the instruction using the wisdom of the Lord in Joshua 3:3 'And they commanded the people,
saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it.'
Only after this incident where Joshua gave instructions to the people and priests, the Lord promises Joshua that he will be with him and will magnify him.
We read in Joshua 3:8 'And thou shalt command the priests that bear the ark of the covenant, saying, When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still
in Jordan.' Here the Lord instructs Joshua to command the preists to stand still when they reach the river Jordan. Although Joshua started do many things by the divine
wisdom of the Lord, he always make it a point to obey the words of the Lord. Joshua knew if the presence of the Lord is going before him, then he can move forward. Joshua
who followed the instruction and the presence of the Lord, he was exalted. Even in our lives, we can start taking decisions using the divine wisdom of the Lord and the
Lord will confirm them and will guide us just as how he led Joshua. It is not necessary to know all the details to start something in our lives, we need to take a step
of faith in the presence of the Lord. When we do so, the Lord will definitely command an exaltation. We read in Joshua 4:14 'On that day the LORD magnified Joshua in
the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.' The Lord did exactly what he has spoken and promised Joshua. He magnified
and blessed him. Amen.
