Power of Jesus – 3
In the above passage we learn about the second miracle of Jesus which is the miracle for the son of the noble man. When Jesus started to work out his miracles, he did not do them as magic tricks. Our Lord Jesus had a divine purpose behind each and every miracles he performed. Even in this miracle, we read the entire family of the noble man believed in the name of the Lord. This was the real reason of the miracle which increased their faith on Jesus. Before all the miracles were performed, the power of Jesus were revealed and fulfilled the purpose of the Lord.
Knowledge of knowing Jesus
As we read in the above passage, the Galilaeans accepted and received Jesus after having seen all the miracles he did at Jerusalem at the feast. Here we see the son of the noble man was sick and he needed a divine healing. The noble man having heard about the miracles of Jesus, he requested Jesus to heal his son. We see about two things which gained them knowledge about Jesus. Firstly, when people saw his miracles in their own eyes directly. Secondly, when they (noble man) heard about the miracles of Jesus. Since they have seen and heard about the works of Jesus, they received him and wanted to know more of his works. As recorded in II Corinthians 2:14 ‘’ We need to pray to God to reveal more about Jesus. We the children of God should have the knowledge of knowing Jesus which will help us to understand his purpose and we will overcome any form of situations by the power of Jesus.
Here we see about the request of the noble man. We see noble men are usually have high authority as they work close to the Kings. Although he has the power of commanding, he requests Jesus to heal his son. The Noble man pleads Jesus and explains that his son is at the point of death. We read in John 4:48 ‘’ The response of Jesus was not favorable or in line with the request. But the noble man was not discouraged by the response of Jesus. The noble man believed that Jesus will perform a miracle on his son. In verse 49, the noble man highlights that his son needs an urgent help and prays to Jesus for his power to be revealed.
When certain doors are shut in our lives or if we do not receive a favorable answer to our prayers, we should not be discouraged. Many times, even if we do not see the miracles and signs that we ask for, we should believe that Jesus still is a miracle worker. Even in our lives, if we are expecting the power of the Lord, we must bring our supplications to the Lord. As the noble man explained about his situation, we should also highlight all our problems and challenges in our prayer.
Faith in the word
Here we see the noble man pleads Jesus to come and save his son. The noble man might have thought that Jesus will come to his place in order to heal his son. He had a lack of faith that Jesus can only heal if he comes to the place where his son was kept. In order to deliver him from the unbelief, Jesus taught about faith in John 4:48 ‘’ He addressed the noble man as well as conveyed the message to all the people around him.
But Jesus sent him away saying ‘Go thy way, thy son liveth’. The noble man believed in the word of the Lord and went back to his son. Jesus proved that he is able to work out miracles in places without being present there physically. As recorded in Jeremiah23:23 ‘’ All our prayers that we do presently, will have its fruitful impacts in our future.
In John 4:51-52 ‘ ’ The noble man believed the words of Jesus and while he was going down he received a miracle. In John 4:53 ‘’ He comes to know that his son was healed at the very moment when Jesus told him. On witnessing the miracle, the entire family of the noble man believed in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus. Faith in the word was a formula for his power to be revealed. Amen.
