Magnificent God
Exodus 34:10 'And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and
all the people among which thou art shall see the work of the LORD: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee.'
In the above verse, we see the Lord's doing will be a terrible thing. The word terrible refers to something which is awesome and in Hebrew which is known as Yare. In
Tamil it translates to fearsome. When we hear the works of the Lord we can see the magnificent things. We read in Joshua 4:14 'On that day the LORD magnified Joshua
in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.' We see the Lord was with Joshua and he was exalted by the Lord. The
people who saw this feared him. Even in our lives, people who see the magnificent works of the Lord will fear on his name. The world which witnesses the blessings in
our lives and the works of the Lord they will fear the Magnificent God. The Lord called Abraham as a single person and made him a great nation. The people feared him
because they knew the Magnificent God is with him. The world will be afraid seeing the awesome things that God does in our lives. The Lord will set his people apart and
will bless us. In Genesis 35:5 'And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons
of Jacob.' Here we see the family of Jacob they get into a problem but the Lord was with them. The people did not chase them because the terror of God was upon the
cities. When the Lord is with us it is a protection for us but it is a terror for the world. Today, let us meditate on how the Lord will enable us to witness
the mangnificent things in our lives.
He is on our side
Genesis 20:8 'Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid.'
Here we see the incidents that took place when Abraham and Abimelech met each other. In the verse, we read the men of Abimelech were sore afraid to see the magnificent
things done by the Lord in the life of Abraham. When we look into the journey of Abraham, it was challenging as he was travelling alone. But the people around him witnessed
how the Lord did magnificent things in his life. We read in Genesis 20:3 'But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man,
for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.' Here we see Abimelech attempts to do evil thing using his wealth. The Lord came to Abimelech through a dream
and says 'You are a dead man'. A dream is enough for our Lord to do his wonders. All these while Abimelech was arrogant using his wealth and would have tried to threaten
Abraham, but the Lord did a magnificent thing for Abraham. The very night Abimelech would have realised the magnificient God is with Abraham. The Lord speaks everything on
behalf of Abraham. The Lord was in his side and worked out a magnificent thing. We can also see in Genesis 20:6 'And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou
didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.' The Lord also understands the
justification from Abimelech's side and at the same time the Lord explains things on Abraham's behalf. Even in our lives, let us not to be worried about the threats
from man. The Lord is on our side and it takes only dream for the Lord to work out magnificent thing.
He will fight
Exodus 14:10 'And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the
children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.'
In the above verse, we can also see the Hebrew word 'Yare' is recorded. When the Israelites saw the hosts of Egyptians they feared them greatly. The Lord had a divine
purpose in their lives as he hardens the heart of Pharaoh and also delivers his children. If the Lord allowed the army to chase his children, it means he wanted to
destroy all of them. When the Lord knew his children were afraid, he immediately comes into the rescue. The people cried out to the Lord when they were filled with fear.
In II Chronicles 20:29 - we can see the Lord revealed his awesome things to Jehoshaophat, Moab, Ammon and to others. The Lord will wage a battle for his children. Here
we the people of Israel cried out to the Lord the moment they are afraid. Even in our lives, when we are afraid/threatened the Lord will do his magnificent work. The
Lord will work out his wonders for his children. In Exodus 14:24-25, we see a short urgent prayer with an expectation which rattled the enemies and assisted them to
fight their battle. But after the people of Israel cried to the Lord they started to murmur. We read in Exodus 14:11'And they said unto Moses, Because there were no
graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?' But Moses did not pay
heed to the words of Israelites but he speaks only about the miracles of the Lord. This is the lesson we need to learn in our lives. When we are surrounded by dangers,
when we are afraid, when we are threatened, we need to confess the words of faith. We read in Exodus 14:24-25 'And it came to pass, that in the morning watch the
LORD looked unto the host of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and of the cloud, and troubled the host of the Egyptians, And took off their chariot wheels,
that they drave them heavily: so that the Egyptians said, Let us flee from the face of Israel; for the LORD fighteth for them against the Egyptians.' Here we see the
hosts of Egyptian armies they testified the works of the Lord. The small prayer of Israelites troubled the armies of Egypt. We read in Exodus 14:19 'And the angel of God,
which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:' We read the angel
of God departed and came behind the people of Israel. The pillar of cloud also stood behind them. The people of Israel witnessed the terrible thing which is worked
out by the magnificent God. The Lord stood in between the Israelites and the army of Egypt to fight the battle. The children of the Lord witnessed a massive victory in
the battle.
I Samuel 17:11 'When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid.'
In the above verse, we see Saul and all the Israel were greatly afraid for the words of Goliath. When his people are afraid and dismayed, the Lord starts his magnificent
work. We read in I Samuel 17:49 'And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk
into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.' The Lord used David who is inexperienced in battles to reveal his mighty thing. David who was a small boy who
was never taken seriously by anyone. The Lord strengthened the hands of David. By the strength of Lord, David took a stone and slang it to hit the Philistine. The Lord
worked out his magnificent thing by making the stone hit the target. The Lord strengthens the weak and makes them mighty. We read in I Corinthians 1:27 '..and God hath
chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.' The Lord will strengthen the hands of his children to reveal his magnificent work. Amen.
