SUNDAY SERMONS

Wings of God

Ruth 2:12 “The LORD recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to trust.”

The above verse is the promise verse for this month and this verse confirms us that our Lord God will protect and preserve us under his divine wings. The wings of God symbolizes a divine protection for the children of God. And not only that, the very experience of being guarded under his wings would turn out to be a big blessing to his children. As a part of today’s meditation we would mediate upon the various blessings of his wings that God is going to bless us with.

The works of God to the Egyptians

Exodus 19:4 “Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.”

The above verse reaches out to the people of Israel from our Lord almighty. Here we see God carries them like an eagle. The Israelites were caught in bondage for a whopping period of 430 years and they did witness the mighty miracles that our Lord worked out for his people. When Moses lifted up his rod up higher, the vast red sea was parted into two and it paved the way for the people of Israel to move forward. Despite facing a troublesome situation where the people of Israel was chased by the hosts of Pharaoh behind and having the red sea in front of them, our Lord God almighty works out a mighty miracle for his children. In Exodus 14:18 ‘And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen.’ This verse clearly depicts that our Lord worked out this huge miracle only to reconfirm the people of Israel and also to the Egyptian army that the God who leads the Israelites is able to perform anything and everything for his children. Even in our lives, when we are given into circumstances we should thoroughly believe that this situation is temporary and the name of the Lord will be glorified in an abundant way out of this. We also read in Luke 18:27 ‘And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.’ This should be our permanent hope when we face trials and temptations.

Protection under his wings

Exodus 19:4 “Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.”

Over here in the above passage we see about the comparison to the eagles. The wings refers to the love of a mother. In Deuteronomy 32:10-11 ‘He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; he led him about, he instructed him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings.’ In the above passages we again come across the comparison to an eagle. We see the eagle will stir up its nest only to let the young ones learn how to fly. Even in our lives, our Lord admits certain situations that will stir up our comfort zone and that will disturb our regular life. As the children of God, when we come across similar such situation, we should always bear one thing in mind that our Lord is preparing us for a new blessing. The temptations that we the children of God face in our lives, are purely on divine purpose and that will eventually make us reach the next level in our lives.

When we read further in the passage, it says ‘fluttereth over her young’. The eagle flutters over its young ones. Whenever our Lord God moves on our lives, there will be a divine light. In Genesis 1:2-3 ‘And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.’ When the spirit moved upon the waters, there was a blessing of light. Furthermore we read in the same passage it says ‘spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings.’ if an eagle stirs up its nest, the young ones will fall off the nest. Some of the dropped young ones on the floor will learn to fly by itself but there will be a few wearied young ones which will apparently fails to fly. The eagle picks up these young ones and carries them on its back. Same way in our lives, when we fall down our Lord almighty will pick us up like a doting father and carries us. This we can very well relate in Deuteronomy 29:5 ‘And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.’ This verse confirms that our Lord almighty literally carried the people of Israel in such a way that their clothes and sandals are not worn out.

He brings us to him

Exodus 19:4 “Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.”

The last part of the above verse we see the Lord brings his children to him. This act of Lord ensures that he wants his children to have a close contact with him. In Isaiah 40:29 ‘He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.’ When we the children of God maintain a close connection with God, he will bless us with his new strength. Also we read in Isaiah 40:30-31 ‘Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.’ We see when we wait upon the Lord we will be given the strength of an eagle that mounts his wings and flies up above in the sky. We the children of God should not be like a crow that can fly only for a short distance. Instead we should be like eagles which will not be weary and faint of flying in the air. Our Lord God blesses us with his new strength which will give us the experience of swimming against the tides. When we are near to our Lord God, we will not faint and stumble in our lives.

Therefore, let us all earnestly ask for our Lord’s divine grace which will guide us and guard us under his wings and bless us with perpetual blessings. Amen!
