The fellowship of David with our Lord God

Introduction

Isaiah 55:3 “Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.”

The above promise verse signifies the divine plan of God concerning David and also his purpose to bless his children through David. Today, as a part of meditation let us all meditate upon few important attributes of David that led him to attain the blessings that are reserved for him.

I The divine desire of David

II Samuel 7:1-2 “And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD had given him rest round about from all his enemies;

That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.”

We see when David was blessed by the hands of the Lord, he was literally blessed with all that he wanted. Despite attaining all sorts of blessings, David had a desire to build a church of God. It is truly interesting that David had the divine desire to build a church of God when he was at the sophisticated state. In I Kings 8:18 ‘And the LORD said unto David my father, whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart.’ We see our Lord almighty who reads our minds and hearts, speaks to David concerning his plans of building the church. As we read in the verse, David accepts to the divine purpose of God that the church will be built by his son. As the children of God, even we should have the kind of attribute that David had. Whenever our Lord says NO to our plans or if he gives us another option, we should obey his words.

When we read Hebrews 10:24-25 ‘And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.’ As we are his children, our words should comfort other people and also it should mentor people. In Acts 13:22 ‘And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.’ Due to David’s divine desire, he was considered pleasing in the sight of God. Therefore, when our desires are according to his purpose, our Lord will bless us and a testimony will be shared concerning us.

II The divine promise of our Lord

II Samuel Chapter 7:4-5 “And it came to pass that night, that the word of the LORD came unto Nathan, saying, Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?”

We see the whole of this chapter plays a pivotal role to David. Here in the above passage the word of the Lord comes to David through Nathan, the prophet. In this scenario, the promise of the Lord arrives at the night. We read in Psalms 119:55 ‘I have remembered thy name, O LORD, in the night, and have kept thy law.’ As rightly recorded in this verse, we see the word of the Lord comes to Nathan when he was meditating the word of the Lord in the night. In Psalms 17:3 ‘

Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.’ We see the night time is the perfect time for the Lord’s encounter.

In II Samuel 7:8-9 ‘Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel: And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.’ The above passage explains how the hand of the Lord was with hand and elevated him to the highest. Our Lord God who we worship is able to perform any kind of mighty miracles that we could ever imagine. In II Samuel 7:10-11 ‘Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them anymore, as beforetime, And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house.’ After reading this passage we should understand that our Lord God will give us a place when we draw closer to him. Today, the Lord almighty is going to bless us with the blessings of lands and also with the blessing of generations.

III Humble prayer

II Samuel 7:28-29 “And now, O Lord GOD, thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant: Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue forever before thee: for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed forever.”

Over the above passage we see the humble prayer of David after hearing the words of God from the prophet. Even in our lives, our prayers should be like unto the prayer of David. In Romans 4:21 ‘And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.’ We see when David had the desire of building the church of God, he had the strong faith on God and he did not give up. Even in our lives, when we have a divine desire, we should put our trusts on God and he will take care of the rest. Therefore, let us all pray to God that we should exhibit the divine attributes of David so that we are blessed and led by the hands of the Lord. Amen! God bless you!
