Blessings of David
Introduction
Isaiah 55:3 "Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David."
We see David had a close connection with God. The close contact that David had with the Lord almighty blessed him in abundance. Today, let us meditate upon the few attributes of David that enabled him to receive the great blessings of God.
I Words of David
I Chronicles 28:20 "And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou hast finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD."
The above passages were the last words that Davis said to his son Solomon regarding the church of God. His words motivated Solomon to build the church for the Lord God. The words of David were the main reason for Solomon to build the church of God. The words of David put some sort of a light on Solomon and he went ahead to build the church of God. Also, we should never forget that Solomon built the church of God to glorify the Lord almighty but not as a monument for his own glory. The words of David were purely motivational. As we the children of God, how are our words found today? How motivational and clean are our conversations? Are we motivating our fellow beings? Or are we hurting them by our words? It is high time that we change the sort of the words that we use to others. We see David’s desire was fulfilled by his son and he was blessed. The blessing of David was passed on to his generations.
In Acts 13:36 ‘For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:’ This passage we can notify that David served our Lord God being a King. Even in our lives, we are busy everyday doing our job but what are our contributions towards the ministry of God? When we take David, he served the Lord, he wrote songs for the Lord and also he played instruments for the glory of God. This pleased our Lord God and he blessed David abundantly. Even in our lives, we should make it a point to serve the Lord God in some way and to please the Lord God. And also, let us make sure our words and conversations are pure and motivational. Let our lives glorify the name of our Lord God.
II Consecration of David
I Chronicles 29:14 "But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee."
When we read the above passage we can understand the David’s humility. He submits all that he has in the presence of the Lord. He knew all that he had gained in his life is all because of the sheer grace that the almighty had showered upon him. The consecration of David escalated him from an ordinary shepherd to a position of a king. In II Chronicles 29:15 ‘For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding.’ Though David had a lot of possessions, his mind did not incline on all of them. Even in our lives, we should understand that all that we have today is purely temporal. We should never put our hopes and trust in all that we have in this world. We cannot take a single thing when we leave this world. Let us understand it and hold what is permanent. Let us not hold grudges and hatred on anyone in this world. In I Timothy 6:7 ‘For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.’ After reading this verse we should submit all that we have to the presence of the Lord as David did. Today, as the children of God we all should have this consecration like David and submit ourselves completely to the presence of God.
III Good age, Riches & Glory
I Chronicles 29:26,28 "Thus David the son of Jesse reigned over all Israel.
And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour: and Solomon his son reigned in his stead."
The above passage marks the last days of David. We see the end of a person is always reckoned than his start. Truly speaking, the last days of David was full of glory. In Job 8:7 ‘Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.’ Today, our Lord promises that he commands the abundant increase to his children. In II Chronicles 29:28 ‘And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and honour: and Solomon his son reigned in his stead.’ This verse clearly points out the blessings that David was blessed with. David, led a faithful life, he was blessed as his deeds pleased the Lord God. And also, his blessing was passed on to his generations as his son Solomon takes the throne and he was blessed by the hands of God. Therefore, as we children of God should also lead a life like David and please our Lord almighty to be blessed in abundance. Amen. God bless you!
