Miracles at the last moment

Introduction

Proverbs 21:31 “The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.”

            In the above passage we see the horse is prepared for the big day. But the victory comes from the hands of the Lord. In our lives, we may not be having any signs of miracle, but the Lord God will give us victory at the last moment. The Lord will supply all our needs at the right time.

As part of our meditation, let us see the miracles that took place at the last moment.

I Miracle of Isaac’s rescue

Genesis 22:10-12 “And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me.”

            Like how a gold is tested and refined for the purity, here we see the genuine faith of Abraham was tested by the Lord himself. The Lord did not want Isaac to be an idol between Abraham and him. This is the key reason why God wanted to test Abraham. In order to fulfil his purposes, God wanted to Abraham to trust only on him alone. But Abraham was ready to face the situation. He knew that the Lord that he worships will not forsake him. He invested his faith and hope on the Lord almighty and submits himself at that juncture. In Hebrews 11:18 ‘By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,’ The firm faith and obedience of Abraham saves Isaac.

            Even in our lives, we should not be disappointed when we do not see any signs of miracles. Patience is a virtue and we the children of God should submit ourselves in the presence of the Lord. When we obey the command of God, he will direct us to the path of abundant blessings. We need to be very careful with the blessings we receive from the Lord God. We should not be obsessed with the blessings. It will eventually become an idol which will act as a barrier. We should never give room for such things in our lives. Nothing should separate us form the love of the Lord.

II Miracle of the Red sea

Exodus 14:21-22 “And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.”

            When the Israelites were living a slave life in the land of Egypt, they did not know about the Lord God. For about 430 years, they were not connected to the Lord almighty. Only after witnessing the plagues in the land of Egypt, they came to know about the greatness of the Lord. The moment when the people of Israel began their journey from the land of Egypt, they started to witness the miracles from the Lord. In Exodus 14:10 ‘And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD.’ The Israelites were petrified having chased by the hosts of Pharaoh. The situation was so dangerous as they had the Egyptian army behind and the massive Red sea ahead. They literally cried out to the Lord to rescue them. Here, the people walked by sight not by faith. The Lord expects his children to walk in faith. As rightly recorded in II Corinthians 5:7 ‘For we walk by faith, not by sight.’ When we walk in faith, there will no room for fear.

            We see Moses was not scared as he had invested his faith on the Lord of hosts who is going to save them. In Hebrews 11:29 ‘By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned.’ When we read Exodus 14:13 ‘And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.’ This verse has three commandments in it.

One – Do not fear. Assures them God is on their side

Two – Stand Still. Conveys that they cannot win this battle with their own strength.

Three – Salvation. Wanted them to experience the salvation

            Before Moses parted the sea with his staff, the Lord God had handled the enemies already. The pillar of clouds from the Lord distracted the enemies away from behind. In Exodus 14:21 ‘And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided.’ The Lord rescued his people at the very last moment and makes way from them under the ocean. The people of Israel saw a historic win at the Red sea. We the children of God should never be weary looking at the situations. The situations that we face might not be happening or conducive but we need to trust on the Lord who is faithful enough to rescue us at the right time. Amen.
