Omnipotent God - 2
Omnipotent God - 2
Job 38:1 “Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,”
The book of Job is one of the important books in the Bible where we can see the characteristics of the Lord God. From chapters 38 to 41, we can clearly see that the Lord reveals his Omnipotence and his divine characteristics to Job. When we read the book of Job, we can see Job did not understand why certain things are happening in his life. He was confused as to why he is facing all the negative things in his life when we had not done anything wrong. We see the Lord himself answers all his questions by revealing his omnipotence. In Job 40:4 ‘Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.’ Job was spellbound on hearing the divine explanations that the Lord God reveals to him. As a part of today’s meditation, let us discuss on how the Lord revealed his Omnipotence to Job.
Intuition
Job 38:1 “Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,”
We see the Lord answers Job out of the whirlwind. He chooses whirlwind as a platform to communicate with his servant Job. Similarly in Exodus 24:17-18 we can see that Lord God speaks from fire and cloud to his children. The main reason why God chose whirlwind is recorded in Psalm 50:3-4 ‘Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.’ The whirlwind refers to the judgment in the given verse. In chapter 38, the Lord descends out of a whirlwind to judge the ones who judged Job. As Job did not sin, the Lord himself was not able to tolerate that he was accused by people.
Until the Lord descended down for Job, people did not understand Job. People assumed and concluded that Job’s sufferings are due to his sinful life. At the appointed time, things all changed when God came into picture. When the Lord starts to speak out, he brings to light the hidden things of darkness, and manifests the counsels of the hearts to the people. This we read in I Corinthians 4:5 ‘Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.’ The Lord speaks for Job’s cause and blesses him double fold. When the Lord comes down for his children, he will handle all the accusations and will give them praise and blessings. Even in our lives, we might have been fed up hearing all the baseless accusations and judgments. Today, the Omnipotent God comes to fight for our cause. He will exalt us by revealing the hidden things and will give us honor and praise.
Integrity
Job 38:8 ‘Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?’
In order to reveal certain things, the Lord tried to compare his creations. The Lord has set a certain integral rules to all his creations to abide. For example, he has set a limit for the oceans and kept it in control. In Luke 8:24-25 ‘And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.’ We see the Lord rebuked the nature and it obeyed him. All his creations will have to obey the integral rules that are set for each one of them. Even in our lives, certain things might seem like it is crossing over the line. But we should not forget that the Lord is the ruler of all natural forces. We are worshipping a supernatural God who dominates and controls over everything on earth.
In Job 38:8 ‘Job 38:8 ‘Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?’ As recorded in the passage, the Lord has set doors to the raging sea. The Lord who has the divine authority over nature will control all the things for his children. In Genesis 8:2 ‘The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;’ As the dam controls the waters, so the Lord God will control over all the uncontrollable things in our lives and will bless us.
Infinity
Job 38:10-11 “And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,
And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?”
Here we see the Lord has set a boundary for the oceans. The waters will have to be within the boundary that is set by the God and cannot pass beyond it. The waves of the sea might seem furious and fast but it will be controlled in a limit. In Jeremiah 5:22 ‘Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?’ The Lord has set the sand as a boundary to control the massive ocean. And such is the creation of our master. Even in our lives, our Lord has set a permanent limit for all the troubles that we are facing in our lives. We might say we are facing continuous problems in our lives and things have gone beyond our hands. But that is not the end. The omnipotent God who controls the nature, the God who rebuked the sea and wind is faithful enough to take control of all the things in our lives. The Lord who walked on the waters is with us to deliver us from everything. Amen.
