Am I Saved? This I Believe
Romans 5:8-9 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.”We have been meditating on the churches specified in the scripture and the pattern of the church that is in the mind of the Lord. From this week, we are going to start to meditate a new series called 'This i believe' - we are going to learn what we as Christians should believe from Biblical foundations. Our belief system is very important as it shapes our lives. We believe on many things but we do not really know why we believe in those things. We have been following a belief system for a very long time just like others but we do not really know the real meaning. We as Christians should be well aware of the salvation. Biblically salvation means being delivered from the deadly clutches and eternal effects of sin. We need to understand how sins can catch hold off us firmly. A turtle might seem beautiful to look at but when it bites us it will not easily let go of our hands. Same way, when we sin against the Lord it will grasp on to us. The only way to rescue ourselves from the sins is through salvation. Only through the experience of salvation we can overcome the clutches of sin. Salvation is the first step we must all make if we want to be pleasing and accepted by God. Lets see Biblical view of salvation and how we can receive it in its fullness.
1. Requirement For Salvation
Romans 5:8-9 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
The above passage we read, the Lord died for us to redeem us from the clutches of sin. The Lord is giving his salvation to his children for free. The salvation is given while we were sinning and not after we ask for it. The first step in receiving salvation is admitting that we need saving. The moment we admit that we require the salvation, we receive this experience of salvation from the Lord. Salvation is completely brought through the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, which means He chose to give His life while we were yet sinners - not after our repentance.
There is no restriction to who can be saved but there is an important condition. That is by knowing we are sinners and we need salvation. We need to be aware that we cannot overcome the sins by ourselves and we need to divine intervention of the greater God who can rescue us from sins. We need to understand only the salvation will act as the step to receive the blessings from the Lord. We are all living in this world as sinners and we need to have the realisation that we need the work of salvation in our lives. The moment when Adam and eve sinned against the Lord, the nature of human race is to sin. We read in Romans 3:23 "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Knowing that we need saving is important as we are born with sin nature. There are three steps involved in realizing the need for salvation.
1.Admitting our sin (Rom 3:23)
2.Good nature and being “nice” does not mean salvation.
3.Jesus is the only way to God and salvation.
In Romans 10:9 "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Salvation begins through our realization and confession. Salvation is a process that goes on daily and not an immediate perfection. Salvation is not like a vaccination, which is a one time shot. It should be like the nutritious food that we consume everyday. The closer we get to God the more we realize that we are sinful and we need him.
2. Revelation Of Salvation
Eph 2:8,9 "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."
After we realise we require the salvation and receive it from the Lord, it leads to the revelation of salvation. The word “work” has to be used very carefully while talking about salvation. Paul clearly states the salvation is not of our works. Salvation comes through the Work of Christ on the cross. We read in the passage that By grace, saved through faith - which means the grace is given to the unworthy. The gift of salvation given to the unworthy through only faith. Salvation is the gift of God. Salvation works as a gift in our lives. Although we do certain things by faith and acheive things, we need to understand that faith comes from the Lord. In John 10:9 "I am the door, If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture." Salvation is a way that leads to the pasture through the door that is Jesus Christ. The flock of sheep are kept inside a pen which will be guarded by the shepherd. The pen will not have an outlet or gate as the Shepherd will act as a door. Same way, our Lord Jesus is the door to the pasture. Therefore, we see the salvation is revealed as a gift and also a way leading to the pasture.
3. Result Of Salvation
2 Cor 5:17 "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
When we receive the salvation from the Lord, our life will navigate to a differnt direction. The Lord has redeemed us from the path of sin through his salvation. Therefore, we will be a new creation. We walk as new creations when saved - dead with Christ raised to life with Him. As a result of salvation, we enter into the best relationship ever. These days, people are afraid of getting into new relationships. The worldly relationships will bring only pain and regret. But the relationship of the Lord will transform our lives and brings liberty. When we are faithful in the divine relationship with the Lord, it will turn out to be fruitful and will be a blessing. We establish a divine connection with God through salvation. When someone asks us to follow their beliefs, usually means to do certain things which they are doing. But following the Lord Jesus is different. When we receive the word of the Lord and walk accordingly our lives will be transformed. Being saved is more than that, begins with believing and continues in relationship.
Salvation is the beginning of a life of faith. The world teaches we are more than enough - salvation reminds us only Jesus is more than enough. We the children of the Lord, should realize daily that we are sinful and need a savior. When we have this realisation, we will see salvation revealed in every aspect of your life through this beautiful relationship with God.
4. One Savior
John 3:16,17 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son
into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."
The fullness of the salvation is found in one savior who is our Lord Jesus Christ. God knew that we needed salvation, thats why He sent His only Son. Throughout this sermon we have been seeing that salvation comes through one person and His Work, and that person is Jesus. Romans 10:13 “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” When we call upon the name of the Lord, we will receive the salvation. We do not have many avenues to receive the salvation, there is only one way who is our savior. Salvation can happen anywhere, anytime and to any person. Amen.
