Personal Revival - Intimacy with God
2 Chro 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”Personal revival is a profound renewal of an individual’s spiritual life, a fresh encounter with God. That brings restoration, deeper intimacy, and renewed passion for His presence.
Intimacy with God is being so close to Him that His desires, love, and presence shape every aspect of your life. We read in Psalm 63:1-8 we can understand David’s thirst for God’s presence as the highest pursuit.
In John 15:4-5 'Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “Iam the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.' We must understand that Abiding in Christ as the essence of an intimate relationship. In Revelation 2:4-5 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. Restoring our first love for God.
1. Personal Revival
Acts 3:19 'Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord..'
Personal revival is not just an emotional event, but a spiritual awakening marked by hunger for God, deep repentance, and a new level of surrender. It begins in the heart, often leading to transformation not only in your life but also affecting those around you.
Humility: God revives the humble and brokenhearted (Isaiah 57:15, James 4:6). We read in Isaiah 57:15 For this is what the high and exalted One says he who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.
Repentance: Honest confession and turning from sin bring restoration.
Prayer: Fervent, persistent prayer draws us closer and brings spiritual awakening (Luke 18:1, James 5:16).
2. Intimacy with God
Philippians 3:10 'I want to know Christ - yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death..'
Knowing God personally is a key thing in our life. If we know God, we will reflect the love of God. We read in Mark 12:30 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
• Abiding in His presence through worship, prayer, and stillness.
Psalms 46:10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
• Listening and obedience to His voice and Word
John 14:21 Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
• Making relationship with Him the priority over all else (Matt 6:33)
(Psa 63:1) David’s psalms reflect his longing for closeness—“My soul thirsts for You, my body longs for You in a dry and weary land...”.
3. Practical Steps
1. Set Aside Daily Time with God - Prayer, Bible meditation, and worship shouldn’t be routine but expressions of love and dependence on Him.
2. Embrace Humility - Recognize your need for God and continually repent from complacency or sin.
3. Exposure to Scripture - We read in 2 Timothy 3:15 'and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.' The Word revives, corrects, guides, and transforms
4. Remove Distractions and Hindrances - Lay aside anything that chokes your passion—sin, busyness, or misplaced priorities.
5. Seek God Earnestly - (Psalm 42:1) Make Him your top pursuit “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for You, O God”.
6. Cultivate a Lifestyle of Worship - Worship goes beyond singing, it is surrendering every part of your life to Him.
7. Live in Obedience and Surrender - Intimacy grows as you obey God’s instructions and rely on the Holy Spirit.
